‘Le Petit’ Onesie Decorating Kit Product Photoshoot
After months of researching products, testing materials and creating customized details for our product line, we finally launched our flagship product, the ‘Le Petit’ Onesie Decorating Kit! In preparation for the launch, we organized a photoshoot with Maddy (Mad Hearts Photography), one of our absolute favorites, who we collaborate with regularly for client events! Not only is she super talented, she is also dream to work with and always open to new and fun ideas! Her natural light photography produces a fresh and crisp look which coincides with our product design and brand aesthetic. Although this isn’t one of our conventional posts about baby showers, I wanted to share our recent product line photoshoot and some behind the scenes tips while working on this fun project!
Make sure to have all your materials organized and ready ahead of time. It’s important to have everything accessible so little time is wasted staging each photo. Pinterest is a great resource for ideas on product design, branding and photography. We took inspiration from some online stores and Instagram for styling ideas. Before the shoot, we played around with the layout of each individual product and the kit packaging to see what looked best. Having done this prior to the shoot made the day-of setup much more efficient!
You don’t need to go crazy here. After all, with a product shoot, the focus should be on the product itself, not the surrounding décor or details. Adding subtle accents like fresh flowers is a simple way to enhance and bring some life and scale into the photos. We picked up an assortment of flowers in various colors for our shoot to provide some options. Turns out, we ended up only using one single yellow tulip in a bud vase! In this case, less was more! I made a pretty arrangement for my dining room table with the flowers we didn’t use for the shoot.
I personally love the clean, crisp look of a plain white backdrop. For product photography, this photographs beautifully and there are no distracting patterns or textures that take your focus away from the subject. However, since there isn’t too much color in our product materials themselves, we wanted to imply the colorful potential of the finished product by creating a vibrant accent backdrop. Using crafting paper, a circle cutter and some tape, we made this polka dot wall backdrop! Instead of throwing away the scraps, we used a hole punch to make paper confetti which was used in the individual product photos. This was probably the easiest part of the whole setup and inexpensive too!
Coordinate your outfit to match the palette of the photoshoot or product itself. While my everyday wardrobe typically lacks any color at all, I decided to wear something that would coincide with the vibrant accent colors and whimsical feel of the product line shoot. I also wanted to avoid blending into the white backdrop and create contrast by adding some pops of color. Buried in my closet, I found this bright pink blazer which I paired with a navy top, white skinny jeans and my favorite leopard print flats.
We had so much fun collaborating with Mad Hearts Photography and hope you enjoyed hearing a little more about our product line photoshoot! Don’t forget to stop by our online shop to order the ‘Le Petit’ Onesie Decorating Kit for your upcoming baby shower!
